It cost a node:26-slim pull plus an apt-get install of git on each run, and the commit-back retriggered the pipeline, so every PR paid for at least two builds. The pack is only ever read by local agent tooling, which can regenerate it on demand. Hill, Jarvis, riders, Flash and Fury already dropped this step; chrome, Coulson and Destiny were the stragglers. Split out of #1332, which bundled this with the preview database fix and had fallen 47 commits behind main.
